19 Aug Balancing Family Life and Employment with Flexible Hours at Freedom
Balancing work and family life can be a challenge for anyone, but for parents of children with disabilities, it can feel almost impossible. This was the reality for one of our valued team members, who faced significant obstacles in returning to work after having two young children with special needs. With their medical and educational schedules demanding constant attention, finding a job that could accommodate these needs seemed like an insurmountable task.
The Challenge:
Before joining Freedom, our team member found themselves stuck in a cycle of unsustainable work hours. To manage their family commitments, they were forced to take on night shifts and work unsociable hours. While this allowed them to bring in an income, it came at a high cost—missing out on precious family time, especially on weekends. The lack of flexibility in previous employment made it nearly impossible to enjoy a fulfilling personal life, leading to frustration and a significant reduction in job satisfaction.
Their desire to return to the education profession was prevented by the rigid hours that didn’t align with childcare availability. The challenge of finding an employer who understood the need for flexibility seemed impossible.
The Solution:
That’s when Freedom Childcare came into the picture. What initially attracted our team member to Freedom was our commitment to flexible working hours. Unlike other employers, Freedom offered the flexibility they needed to fit work around existing childcare arrangements without having to make significant adjustments to their children’s schedules. This was a game-changer.
At Freedom, we understand the importance of balancing work and family commitments. Our approach is simple: we offer flexibility without imposing expectations outside of school hours. This means our employees have the freedom to choose when and where they work, allowing them to maintain their personal lives while still contributing professionally.
The Result:
Since joining Freedom, our team member has experienced a significant improvement in their work-life balance. The ability to work flexible hours has meant they no longer need to juggle work and home life. Their children’s routines have remained unchanged, allowing them to be there for drop-offs and pick-ups every day, and keeping to the routine that the children take great comfort in.
The shift from night shifts and unsociable hours to a more balanced schedule has been, in their words, “a breath of fresh air.” With the support and understanding of Freedom, they’ve been able to return to the education sector, something they had missed dearly. The result is a happier, more fulfilled life where their children get the best of them, and they no longer feel the strain of constant juggling.
Reflection:
Reflecting on their journey, our team member shared that without Freedom, they would likely still be struggling to find a job that fit around their children’s needs. The lack of suitable employment options had taken a toll on their well-being and put a strain on their family’s financial situation. Now, thanks to the flexible working arrangement at Freedom, they’ve found a solution that works for everyone. The opportunity to work in a supportive environment where their family’s needs are understood and respected has made all the difference.
At Freedom, we’re proud to offer more than just a job; we provide our employees with the flexibility and support they need to thrive both professionally and personally. This case study is just one example of how our approach to flexible working has positively impacted the lives of our team members. We look forward to continuing to support our employees in achieving a harmonious balance between work and family life.
